Wearing SureSmile® Aligners is a discreet and convenient way to straighten your teeth, but maintaining excellent oral hygiene throughout treatment is essential. Because SureSmile® aligners are removable, you have the unique opportunity to care for your teeth without the challenges of traditional braces.
Brush and Floss After Every Meal
Food particles trapped between your teeth can lead to plaque buildup, which may affect both your teeth and your aligners. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing at least twice daily and flossing once per day. However, during aligner treatment, brushing and flossing after every meal or snack is ideal to avoid trapping bacteria beneath the trays (ADA, n.d.).
Clean Your Aligners Properly
Avoid using toothpaste, as it can be abrasive and cause tiny scratches. Instead, rinse your aligners with lukewarm water and use a soft-bristled toothbrush with mild, clear antibacterial soap. For a deeper clean, soaking your SureSmile® aligners in a clear aligner cleaning solution or retainer-safe soak 1–2 times per week is recommended.
Stay on Schedule
Each set of aligners is designed to be worn for 20–22 hours per day. Following your treatment plan closely and switching aligners as directed ensures the best results and minimizes treatment time.
“The success of clear aligners depends on consistency and oral hygiene,” says Dr. Donna Galante, orthodontist.
Your SureSmile® journey isn’t just about straightening teeth—it’s about building daily habits that keep your smile healthy and confident for years to come.
With a little extra care, your SureSmile® experience will be smooth—and your smile, stunning.
